Chicago Faithful Celebrate Commemoration of St. George the Martyr

On 24 April 2012 the faithful of St. George Cathedral in Chicago celebrated the Commemoration of St. George the Martyr and partook of the Holy Qurbana.

The Eucharistic Liturgy was consecrated by the Reverend Archdeacon Qardagh Hakim in the presence of His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East. Other clergy present included Archdeacons Aprim DeBaz, Shlemon Khazkiel and Athanasis Yosip, Chor-Bishop Paulus Benjamin and Reverend Priests Dinkha Dinkha, Khoshaba Boza, William Toma, Andreyous Tawer and Backus Ishaya.

In his sermon Archdeacon Qardagh spoke on the relevance of martyrdom in Christian history and the consequence of martyrdom to the modern-day church.

Following the service, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Patriarchal Cathedral offered a lunch on the occasion of the patron saint’s commemoration with the participation of His Holiness the Catholicos Patriarch and clergyman.
